Day 5: Geneva and a relaxing cruise on Lake Geneva
The fifth day begins relaxingly with a drive along the shore of Lake Geneva. Our destination: the international city of Geneva. As soon as we arrive, my eye is caught by the famous Jet d'Eau, which shoots high into the sky and is one of the city's most well-known landmarks. Geneva has its own unique, cosmopolitan atmosphere, and I stroll through the streets to admire the famous flower clock – a colourful work of art made of plants that tells the time and is also a symbol of the precision of Swiss watchmaking.
After this tour of exploration, I look forward to the next highlight of the day: a cruise on Lake Geneva. In first-class comfort, we glide over the deep blue water, surrounded by picturesque mountains and idyllic shores. I let my mind wander, enjoy the tranquillity and admire the scenery unfolding before my eyes time and again. The fresh lake air and gentle waves provide the perfect relaxation.
Back in Montreux, I have the evening free. I stroll leisurely along the promenade, enjoy the last rays of sunshine, and finally return, contented, to my hotel, the "Eden Palace Au Lac". A quiet evening with a glass of wine rounds off the day perfectly.
Day 6: On to picturesque Zermatt – history and indulgence
It's time to move on. Today takes me into the upper Rhône Valley, and I'm looking forward to new discoveries. Our first stop is Martigny, a charming town with a rich Roman history. The old amphitheatre is particularly impressive, bearing witness to times gone by. I stroll through the historic ruins and imagine how the Romans once held their games here.
From Martigny, we continue to Sion, a town dominated by two striking rocky peaks. Atop each of these peaks sits an imposing episcopal fortress, offering a majestic sight even from afar. I visit the cathedral and the old town hall, letting myself be enchanted by the town's medieval atmosphere.
In the afternoon, we continue by cog railway to the car-free mountain resort of Zermatt. The journey there is an experience in itself – the steep slopes and breathtaking scenery make the trip a real highlight. In the evening, a "dine-around evening" is on the programme. I'm spoilt for choice between various local restaurants and finally decide on a traditional fondue. With a steaming cheese fondue and a glass of wine, I enjoy the cosy atmosphere and let the day in Zermatt come to a fitting close, before relaxing at my hotel, Resort Alex.
