Travel Diary Switzerland: Day 5 and 6

Day 5: Geneva and a Relaxing Boat Cruise on Lake Geneva

The fifth day begins relaxed with a drive along the shores of Lake Geneva. Our destination: the international city of Geneva. As soon as I arrive, the famous Jet d’Eau catches my eye, shooting high into the sky and being one of the city's most iconic landmarks. Geneva has its own cosmopolitan atmosphere, and I stroll through the streets to admire the famous Flower Clock – a colorful work of art made from plants that shows the time and simultaneously symbolizes the precision of Swiss watchmaking.

After this exploration, I look forward to the next highlight of the day: a boat cruise on Lake Geneva. In first-class comfort, we glide over the deep blue water, surrounded by picturesque mountains and idyllic shores. I let my soul unwind, enjoy the tranquility, and admire the constantly changing landscape unfolding before my eyes. The fresh lake air and the gentle waves provide perfect relaxation.

Back in Montreux, I have the evening free. I leisurely stroll along the promenade, enjoy the last rays of sunlight, and eventually return satisfied to my hotel, the "Eden Palace Au Lac." A quiet evening with a glass of wine rounds off the day perfectly.

Day 6: On to Picturesque Zermatt – History and Delights

It’s time to move on. Today’s journey takes me to the upper Rhône Valley, and I’m looking forward to new discoveries. Our first stop is Martigny, a charming town with rich Roman history. The old amphitheater is particularly impressive, bearing witness to ancient times. I stroll through the historic ruins and imagine how the Romans once held their games here.

From Martigny, we continue to Sion, a town dominated by two prominent rocky peaks. Each of these peaks is crowned by an imposing episcopal fortress, offering a majestic view from afar. I visit the cathedral and the old town hall, letting myself be enchanted by the medieval atmosphere of the city.

In the afternoon, we continue by cogwheel train to the car-free mountain resort of Zermatt. The journey itself is an experience – the steep slopes and breathtaking landscape make the trip a real highlight. In the evening, a “Dine-Around Night” is planned. I have the hard choice of several local restaurants and finally opt for a traditional fondue. With a steaming cheese fondue and a glass of wine, I enjoy the cozy atmosphere and let the day in Zermatt end on a high note, before relaxing at my hotel, Resort Alex.
