Beware of Scammers Bulgaria
How can you recognize fraudulent websites (scam websites)?
When browsing the internet, you may have already noticed that some websites appear less trustworthy than others. A large number of news portals such as the Consumer Advice Center Baden-Württemberg (01/07/2025), the Allgäuer Zeitung (11/06/2025), Tagesschau (20/05/2025) and BR24 (12/04/2025) have reported on the dangers of scam websites – particularly in connection with the purchase of vignettes. We would like to show you how to recognize fraudulent websites so you do not fall into the trap.
Take a closer look at website links (URLs)
If you visit a website you are unfamiliar with, you should first check the URL. Look out for unusual characters, sequences of numbers, or spelling mistakes in the link.
Cheap does not automatically mean trustworthy
Fraudsters deliberately exploit the desire for particularly low prices. Be cautious if a product is offered at a conspicuously low price. In several cases, invalid vignettes were sold, which ultimately led to high fines.
Check payment methods
A clear warning sign is when advance payment only is offered as a payment method. Reputable providers offer several payment options, such as credit card or PayPal with buyer protection. Never carelessly share sensitive data such as credit card numbers or TANs.
Check the legal notice (imprint)
A reputable website always has a complete legal notice. This includes the company name, address, contact details, and commercial register information.
Verify contact details
Do not just read the legal notice—actively verify the information. Does the company really exist at the stated address?
Be cautious with trust seals
Trust seals are intended to convey security but are also forged. Therefore, always check the other indicators of credibility as well.
The overall impression matters
Pay attention to spelling mistakes, unprofessional texts, or contradictory content. A reputable website appears clear, structured, and trustworthy.
Tip: Take action
If you come across a suspicious website, report it to the Consumer Advice Center. This helps protect others from fraud as well.
