Vehicle Classes in Slovakia

Depending on the vehicle class, your vehicle is subject to either the vignette requirement or the payment of a distance-based toll. You can easily and conveniently order your digital vignette from us from the comfort of your home! First, however, we would like to show you which vehicle classes require a vignette.

Do you need a vignette?

In Slovakia, vehicles up to 3.5 t GVW require a (digital) vignette. A distance-based toll must be paid if your vehicle exceeds 3.5 t GVW. However, there are also exceptions. The following vehicle types will help you determine whether you need a vignette or whether the distance-based toll applies to you:

Motorcycles

Motorcycles are not subject to the vignette requirement.

Cars

As long as your car is under 3.5 tonnes GVW, the vignette requirement applies. If it exceeds 3.5 tonnes GVW, a distance-based toll must be paid instead.

Combinations (vehicle + trailer)

Combinations with a total weight under 3.5 t GVW require only one vignette. Combinations with a total weight over 3.5 t GVW require two vignettes (one vignette for the vehicle and one for the trailer).

Motorhomes

Motorhomes require a vignette regardless of their weight, as they are tolled independently of the GVW. This means that even motorhomes with a total weight over 3.5 t GVW only need a vignette and do not have to pay the distance-based toll.

Trucks

The following also applies to trucks: If they exceed 3.5 t GVW, a distance-based toll must be paid. The distance-based toll is collected electronically using a transmitting device (called an on-board unit). It applies on motorways, expressways and selected sections of first- and second-class roads. For trucks under 3.5 t GVW, the vignette requirement applies.
