Vehicle Classes Slovakia
Depending on the vehicle class, your vehicle is subject to either the vignette requirement or the payment of a distance-based toll. You can order the digital vignette conveniently and easily from home with us! First, however, we would like to show you which vehicle classes require a vignette.
Do you need a vignette?
In Slovakia, vehicles up to 3.5 t gross vehicle weight require a (digital) vignette. A distance-based toll must be paid if your vehicle exceeds 3.5 t gross vehicle weight. However, there are also exceptions. The following vehicle types will help you decide whether you need a vignette or whether the distance-based toll applies to you:
Motorcycles
No vignette requirement applies to motorcycles.
Cars
As long as your car is under 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight, the vignette requirement applies. For over 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight, a distance-based toll must be paid instead.
Combinations (vehicle + trailer)
Combinations with a total weight under 3.5 t gross vehicle weight only require a vignette. Combinations with a total weight over 3.5 t gross vehicle weight require two vignettes (one vignette for the vehicle and one for the trailer)
Motorhomes
Motorhomes require a vignette regardless of their weight, as they are tolled independently of gross vehicle weight. This means that even motorhomes with a total weight over 3.5 t gross vehicle weight only need a vignette and do not have to pay the distance-based toll.
Trucks
The same applies to trucks: From over 3.5 t gross vehicle weight, the distance-dependent/distance-based toll must be paid. The distance-based toll is collected electronically using a transmitter device (called an On-Board Unit). It applies on motorways, expressways and a few selected sections of so-called first and second class roads. For trucks under 3.5 t gross vehicle weight, the vignette requirement applies.
