Vehicle Classes

If you would like to travel to the Czech Republic, you must either purchase a vignette or pay a distance-based toll in order to use Czech motorways. Below, we give you an overview of whether you can conveniently order a vignette for your vehicle from home via our portal, or whether you need to purchase an on-board unit for the distance-based toll at toll stations on site.

Do you need a vignette?

There are various vehicle categories that fall under the vignette requirement. In general, vehicles up to 3.5 t permissible gross weight require a vignette, while vehicles over 3.5 t permissible gross weight must pay a distance-based toll. However, there are exceptions.

Motorcycles

As a motorcyclist, you do not need a vignette and you do not have to pay a distance-based toll. You can use all motorways and expressways in the Czech Republic without restrictions.

Passenger Cars

If you travel to the Czech Republic by car, you need a vignette. The distance-based toll does not apply to you.

Combinations: Car with Trailer

There is no difference whether you travel with or without a trailer. You only need a vignette for your car. However, your towing vehicle must not exceed 3.5 t permissible gross weight otherwise the vignette requirement does not apply and you must pay a distance-based toll.

Motorhomes

If your motorhome has a total weight of over 3.5 t permissible gross weight, you must pay the distance-based toll and the vignette requirement does not apply.

Commercial Vehicles Over 3.5 t: e.g. Trucks and Motorhomes

All vehicles over 3.5 t permissible gross weight are subject to the distance-based toll. To calculate and pay the toll, you need a transponder (on-board unit) that is registered to your vehicle and installed. Vehicle classes within the vignette requirement

In the Czech Republic, vehicle classes are differentiated by the type of fuel, which can affect vignette prices:

• I: Car powered by petrol or diesel
• II: Plug-in hybrid (CO2 max 50g/km)
• III: Car powered by biogas
• IV: Car powered by natural gas (does not refer to LPG/autogas)
