Ski resorts in Romania

Although Romania is known for its breathtaking nature and welcomes numerous visitors every year, most people are unaware of the variety of ski regions in Romania. What’s special about these ski areas? They give you the opportunity to discover skiing or snowboarding without the steep prices for a ski pass or accommodation like in Austria, Switzerland, or France.

Straja ski resort

The Straja ski resort is located in Hunedoara County and lies very close to the town of Lupeni, which can even be reached by gondola up to the edge of the town. If you would like to improve your skills, you can also visit the ski school located in the resort.

Other winter sports activities

In addition to your ski or snowboard adventure, you can discover much more in Straja. Enjoy some sledding fun or ride your sled through the winter wonderland. Straja is also known for its snowmobile tours, where you can experience fast-paced rides. A bit of thrill is guaranteed!

Sinaia ski resort

The Sinaia ski resort is located in the Bucegi Mountains and is 124 km from Bucharest and 47 km from Brașov. The resort reaches an altitude of up to 2,090 m and impresses visitors with its picturesque landscape. It is known for its elegance, enhanced by royal villas and Peleș Castle. Sinaia is one of Romania’s most snow-reliable ski regions, with up to 3 m of snow accumulating on the mountain. The season starts in mid-December and runs until early April.

Ski and snowboard adventures

In Sinaia, skiers and snowboarders of every level will find a slope for themselves! The various pistes extend over 20 km and offer easy, intermediate, and difficult runs. In addition, there are 5 km of freeride zones. You can reach the slopes via 12 lifts. This ski resort is especially well suited for beginners, as there are practice slopes in the valley. But advanced skiers won’t be left out either: you can let loose on the black runs.

Other winter sports activities

Besides the slopes, you can also expand your knowledge culturally. Visit Romania’s magnificent castles such as Peleș Castle or Pelișor Castle. If you would like to explore the winter landscape more closely, you can do so on a guided snowshoe hike or winter hike. There are also horse-drawn sleigh rides or panoramic gondola rides. In addition to skiing, you can also try cross-country skiing.

Olimpica ski resort

Other winter sports activities

The resort belongs to the town of Predeal, which you can also explore very well. Besides skiing, you can try the fun park, which has two runs for sleds and tubes. But what exactly are tubes? Snowtubing is a special winter sport where you sit on an inflatable rubber ring (tube) and slide down a secured snow track, similar to sledding, but much faster and more adrenaline-packed. Snowmobile rides are also possible, as well as trying cross-country skiing. You can also take part in winter hikes and enjoy nature at a relaxed pace.

Păltiniș ski resort

The Păltiniș ski resort is considered one of the three most family-friendly ski resorts in Romania and is located about 30 km from the city of Sibiu (Hermannstadt). The resort lies in the Cindrel Mountains at an altitude of 1,440 m. The season begins in late November and runs until early April.

While there are no green runs, there are practice slopes for beginners off the main pistes. This makes the resort highly recommended for families. Make use of the ski schools, some of which offer a ski kindergarten. The ski schools provide group and private lessons with professional instructors, where children can learn to ski. There is also a snowpark with different courses for snowboarders.

Other winter sports activities
