Although Romania is known for its breathtaking nature and welcomes numerous visitors every year, most people are unaware of the variety of ski regions in Romania. What's special about these ski regions? They give you the opportunity to discover skiing or snowboarding for yourself, without the steep prices for a ski pass or accommodation as in Austria, Switzerland, or France.
Straja Ski Resort
The Straja ski resort is located in Hunedoara County and lies in close proximity to the city of Lupeni, which can even be reached by gondola right to the edge of town. The ski resort impresses its visitors with an altitude of 1,440 m. It is located in the Southern Carpathians and comprises a total of 12 slopes, stretching over a length of 26 km. The longest run extends over 8 km. In total, you can use 13 lifts. The season starts in December and runs until late March/early April.

With its 12 slopes, the ski resort offers great variety, which is worthwhile for both skiing enthusiasts and advanced skiers. In addition, you can discover night skiing (until 9 p.m.) at the Straja ski resort. Particularly noteworthy is the great affordability of the ski resort, especially compared to other countries such as Austria or France. It should be noted that the ski resort consists mainly of blue and red slopes and has two black slopes, making a stay in Straja particularly suitable for advanced as well as already experienced skiers (intermediate level). If you would like to improve your own skills, you can also visit the ski school located in the resort.

Sinaia Ski Resort
The Sinaia ski resort is located in the Bucegi Mountains and is 124 km from the city of Bucharest and 47 km from Brașov. The ski resort stretches up to an altitude of 2,090 m and impresses its visitors with its picturesque landscape. It is known for its elegance, lent to the ski resort by royal villas and the Peleș Castle. The Sinaia ski resort is one of the most snow-reliable ski regions in Romania, with up to 3 m of snow able to accumulate on the mountain. The season starts in mid-December and runs until early April.

In Sinaia, skiers and snowboarders of every level will find a slope for themselves! In total, the various slopes stretch over 20 km and offer visitors easy, intermediate, and difficult slopes. In addition, there are 5 km of freeride zones. You can reach the various slopes via 12 lifts. This ski resort is particularly well suited for beginners, as there are practice slopes in the valley that you can use. But advanced skiers are not forgotten in this ski resort either! You can let loose on the black slopes.

In addition to the various slopes, you can also broaden your cultural horizons here. Visit Romania's magnificent castles such as Peleș Castle or Pelișor Castle. If you would like to explore the winter landscape more closely, you can also do so on a guided snowshoe or winter hike. There is also the option of horse-drawn sleigh rides or panoramic gondola rides. In addition to skiing, you can also try your hand at cross-country skiing.
Olimpica Ski Resort
The Olimpica ski resort is located in Maramureș County and is just 15 minutes from the nearest town called Borșa. The ski resort's name is well-deserved! It is known for its Olympic-standard slopes. The season starts in late December and lasts until the end of March.

The resort's slopes stretch over a total of 7 km. The ski resort features easy and intermediate slopes. There are no black slopes, so Olimpica is particularly suitable for beginners and moderately experienced skiers. In addition to regular skiing, you can also take part in night skiing or ski races. Due to the size of the ski resort, there is only a single lift.

A special highlight of the ski resort are the winter tour events, which put Olimpica in an après-ski mood and fill the valley with live music. In addition, you can also use the gondola rides as a wonderful vantage point to take a closer look at the impressive nature. Poiana Brașov Ski Resort
The Poiana Brașov ski resort is located in the Southern Carpathians and is about 12 km from the city of Brașov. The season runs from early December to early April.

The slopes stretch over a total of 13.7 km. In addition, there are ski tours and runoffs for experienced skiers. The slopes are suitable for all skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to professionals. You can explore the various slopes in more detail with the help of 10 lifts. The "Drumul Roșu" is the longest slope in the ski resort. If you would like to consolidate your skiing skills, you can visit the ski region's ski school. This offers you a wonderful opportunity to familiarize yourself with skiing, especially as a beginner.

At the Poiana Brașov ski resort, you can also pursue other winter sports activities. Try your hand at cross-country skiing or take part in winter hikes. There are also seasonal ice rinks for ice skating in the ski resort. Discover sledding for yourself or indulge in a bit of après-ski.
Predeal Ski Resort
Although the Predeal ski resort is one of the smaller ski regions, it still has a lot of variety to offer. The season starts in late November/early December and lasts until the end of March.

The slopes total only 7.4 km, but there is something for every ski and snowboard level. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced pro, you'll find easy, intermediate, and difficult slopes here. You can also take part in night skiing at the Predeal ski resort. There is also a ski school at the valley station, which offers you the opportunity to improve your skiing and snowboarding skills.

The ski resort belongs to the town of Predeal, which you can also explore very well. In addition to skiing, you can try out the fun park, which has two tracks for sleds and tubes. But what exactly are tubes? Snow tubing describes a very special winter sports activity. You sit on an inflatable rubber ring (tube) and slide down a secured snow track. So quite similar to sledding, but even faster and more adrenaline-filled. In addition, snowmobile rides are possible, as well as trying out cross-country skiing. You can also take part in winter hikes and thus take in the nature at your leisure.
Păltiniș Ski Resort
The Păltiniș ski resort is considered one of the three most child-friendly ski resorts in Romania and is located approximately 30 km from the city of Sibiu (Hermannstadt). The ski resort is located in the Cindrel Mountains at an altitude of 1,440 m. The season starts in late November and runs until early April.

In this ski resort, various runs with a total length of 1.6 km await you. It should be noted that the ski resort mainly features intermediate slopes, or blue slopes. You can also take part in night skiing, which takes place until 10 p.m.
Although there are no green slopes, there are practice slopes for beginners off the main slopes. This ski resort is therefore highly recommended for families. Make use of the ski schools, which, among other things, offer a ski kindergarten. Thanks to their professional instructors, the ski schools offer group and individual courses. There, your children can learn to ski. There is also a snow park with various courses for snowboarders.

In addition to skiing, you can try the sled run or snow tubing. You can also experience cross-country skiing on a total of 30 km of trails (a track in the snow specially prepared for cross-country skiing). In addition, you can also take part in a guided snowshoe hike or winter hike in this ski resort.
Semenic Ski Resort
The Semenic ski resort is located in the Banat Mountains and is about 35 km from the city of Reșița. The season starts in mid-December and runs until mid-March. However, due to the altitude, the snow can remain even into the months of April and May.

The ski resort features a large number of slopes with a total length of 3.4 km. In addition to easy slopes, there are also intermediate slopes. Advanced skiers will search in vain for difficult slopes in this ski resort, as there are no black slopes. Particularly popular are the Debutanților, Goznuța I and II, and Crucea de Brazi runs. The Debutanților slope is considered particularly suitable for beginners. In addition, you can try out and discover giant slalom at the Semenic ski resort.
