Vehicle Classes Hungary

Depending on the vehicle class, your vehicle is subject to vignette obligation or distance-based toll. You can order the digital vignette from us conveniently and easily from home! First, however, we would like to show you which vehicle classes require a vignette.

Do you need a vignette?

In Hungary, vehicles up to 3.5 t GVW require a (digital) vignette. A distance-based toll must be paid if your vehicle weighs over 3.5 t GVW. However, there are also exceptions. The following vehicle types will help you decide whether you need a vignette or whether the distance-based toll applies to you:

Motorcycles

You need a vignette.

Cars

For your car up to 3.5 t GVW, you need a vignette.

Combinations (towing vehicle + trailer)

You must purchase a vignette if your combination does not exceed 3.5 t GVW. As soon as your vehicle is over 3.5 t GVW, you must pay a distance-based/distance-dependent toll.

Motorhomes

Since 1 January 2026, motorhomes have been subject to the vignette obligation regardless of their gross vehicle weight – the distance-based toll via HU-GO, previously available, is no longer available for motorhomes since then. Motorhomes up to 3.5 t GVW with up to 7 seats fall into vehicle class D1, all other motorhomes (over 3.5 t GVW or with more than 7 seats) fall into vehicle class D2.

Trucks

Trucks over 3.5 t GVW must pay a distance-based toll.

What do the terms relating to the vignette obligation in Hungary mean?

Below you will find the assignment of vehicle classes to the various designations of the vignette obligation in Hungary:

• DM1: Motorcycles

• D1: Motorcycles (when purchasing an annual sticker) and cars with a GVW up to 3.5 t (maximum 7-seaters) and cars up to 3.5 t GVW with a trailer.

• D2: All other vehicles (e.g. more than 7 people) and minibuses up to 3.5 t GVW as well as trucks up to 3.5 t GVW, plus – since 1 January 2026 – motorhomes over 3.5 t GVW.

• B2: Buses with more than 9 seats (including the driver).

• U: Trailers of a vehicle in categories D2 and B2
