Vehicle classes in Hungary

Depending on the vehicle class, your vehicle is subject either to the vignette requirement or to a distance-based toll. You can conveniently and easily order the digital vignette from us online from the comfort of your home. First, however, we would like to show you which vehicle classes require a vignette.

Do you need a vignette?

In Hungary, vehicles up to 3.5 t GVW require a (digital) vignette. A distance-based toll must be paid if your vehicle weighs more than 3.5 t GVW. However, there are also exceptions. The following vehicle types will help you decide whether you need a vignette or whether a distance-based toll applies to you:

Motorcycles

You need a vignette.

Passenger cars

For your passenger car up to 3.5 t GVW, you need a vignette.

Vehicle combinations (towing vehicle + trailer)

You must purchase a vignette if your vehicle combination does not exceed 3.5 t GVW. As soon as your vehicle weighs more than 3.5 t GVW, you must pay a distance-based / mileage-based toll.

Motorhomes

Motorhomes up to 3.5 t GVW are subject to the vignette requirement. Motorhomes over 3.5 t GVW must pay a distance-based toll.

Trucks

Trucks over 3.5 t GVW must pay a distance-based toll.

What do the terms related to the vignette requirement in Hungary mean?

Below you will find the allocation of vehicle classes to the different designations of the vignette requirement in Hungary:

• DM1: Motorcycles
• D1: Motorcycles (when purchasing an annual vignette) and passenger cars with a GVW up to 3.5 t (maximum 7 seats), as well as passenger cars up to 3.5 t GVW with trailer.
• D2: All other vehicles (e.g. more than 7 passengers), minibuses up to 3.5 t GVW, and trucks up to 3.5 t GVW.
• B2: Buses with more than 9 seats (including the driver).
• U: Trailers of vehicles in categories D2 and B2
