Vehicle Classes Hungary

Depending on your vehicle class, your vehicle is subject to either the vignette requirement or the distance-based toll. You can order the digital vignette conveniently and easily from home with us! But first, we would like to show you which vehicle classes require a vignette.

Do you need a vignette?

In Hungary, vehicles up to 3.5 t gross vehicle weight require a (digital) vignette. A distance-based toll must be paid if your vehicle weighs over 3.5 t gross vehicle weight. However, there are also exceptions. The following vehicle types will help you decide whether you need a vignette or whether the distance-based toll applies to you:

Motorcycles

You need a vignette.

Cars

For your car up to 3.5 t gross vehicle weight, you need a vignette.

Combinations (towing vehicle + trailer)

You must purchase a vignette if your combination does not exceed 3.5 t gross vehicle weight. As soon as your vehicle exceeds 3.5 t gross vehicle weight, you must pay a distance-based toll.

Motorhomes

Since 1 January 2026, motorhomes have been subject to the vignette requirement regardless of their permissible gross weight – the previously available distance-based toll via HU-GO is no longer available for motorhomes since then. Motorhomes up to 3.5 t gross vehicle weight with up to 7 seats fall into vehicle class D1, while all other motorhomes (over 3.5 t gross vehicle weight or with more than 7 seats) fall into vehicle class D2.

Trucks

Trucks over 3.5 t gross vehicle weight must pay a distance-based toll.

What do the terms relating to the vignette requirement in Hungary mean?

Below you will find the assignment of vehicle classes to the various vignette requirement categories in Hungary:

• DM1: Motorcycles

• D1: Motorcycles (when purchasing an annual sticker) and cars with a gross vehicle weight of up to 3.5 t (maximum 7 seats) and cars up to 3.5 t gross vehicle weight with a trailer.

• D2: All other vehicles (e.g. more than 7 people) and minibuses up to 3.5 t gross vehicle weight and trucks up to 3.5 t gross vehicle weight.

• B2: Buses with more than 9 seats (including the driver).

• U: Trailers of a vehicle in categories D2 and B2
