On the ninth day of my journey, I am treated to a perfect mix of history and cosmopolitan charm. First, I visit the three impressive fortresses of Bellinzona, a UNESCO World Heritage site. There, I meet a local expert who guides me through the fascinating history of these medieval castles. They are stunning examples of Alpine fortification architecture and tell the story of the strategic importance of this region in past centuries. The thick walls and towers transport me to another era and give me a wonderful insight into Switzerland's historical heritage.
After the tour, the journey continues through the breathtaking region of Graubünden. We cross the San Bernardino Pass and pass the charming town of Tiefencastel while following the young Rhine, which winds its way through the valley. The drive is an experience in itself, with constantly changing landscapes and views that are hard to beat.
Soon, we reach the famous Julier Pass, which leads us to the glamorous St. Moritz. This luxurious resort is located in the beautiful Engadine Valley, framed by the imposing Grisons Alps. St. Moritz exudes luxury and elegance, and I look forward to exploring this world-renowned city. My accommodation, the elegant Hotel Crystal, promises the highest comfort – the perfect place to unwind and prepare for the upcoming adventures.
The tenth day of my journey begins leisurely, with excitement about the possibilities that this world-famous holiday destination offers. St. Moritz, synonymous with glamour and jet-setting, promises many exciting activities. I have the whole day at my leisure, and it’s hard to decide: Should I stroll through the upscale boutiques and soak in the luxurious atmosphere of the town, or perhaps enjoy one of the many outdoor activities available?
Luckily, my tour guide gives me a mountain railway pass, which grants me access to all cable cars, funiculars, and chairlifts in the Engadine St. Moritz region – free of charge. This gives me the perfect opportunity to explore the surrounding Alpine world. A ride over the Bernina Pass is also on the list of recommendations, as this scenic train route is considered one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world.
In the end, I opt for a relaxing cable car ride that takes me high up into the mountains. Once at the top, I enjoy the spectacular view of the Engadine, the snow-covered peaks, and the crystal-clear mountain lakes. The fresh wind and the impressive landscape provide the perfect setting to quietly enjoy the day and leave the stress of everyday life behind.
In the evening, I return to my cozy Hotel Crystal and let the day end in peace.
