Travel Diary Day 5+6
Day 5: Geneva and a relaxing cruise on Lake Geneva
The fifth day begins relaxedly with a drive along the shore of Lake Geneva. Our destination: the international city of Geneva. Upon arrival, the famous Jet d'Eau immediately catches my eye, shooting high into the sky and being one of the city's most well-known landmarks. Geneva has its own cosmopolitan atmosphere, and I stroll through the streets to admire the famous flower clock – a colorful work of art made of plants that shows the time while also symbolizing the precision of Swiss watchmaking.
After this exploration tour, I look forward to the next highlight of the day: a cruise on Lake Geneva. In first-class comfort, we glide over the deep blue water, surrounded by picturesque mountains and idyllic shores. I let my mind wander, enjoy the tranquility, and admire the landscape that unfolds anew before my eyes time and again. The fresh lake air and gentle waves provide the perfect relaxation.
Back in Montreux, I have the evening free. I stroll leisurely along the promenade, enjoy the last rays of sunshine, and finally return contentedly to my hotel, the "Eden Palace Au Lac." A quiet evening with a glass of wine rounds off the day perfectly.
Day 6: Onward to picturesque Zermatt – history and indulgence
It's time to move on. Today's day takes me into the upper Rhône Valley, and I look forward to new discoveries. Our first stop is Martigny, a charming town with a rich Roman history. Particularly impressive is the old amphitheater, which bears witness to bygone times. I stroll through the historic ruins and imagine how the Romans once held their games here.
From Martigny, we continue to Sion, a town dominated by two striking, rocky peaks. On each of these peaks sits an imposing episcopal fortress, offering a majestic sight even from afar. I visit the cathedral and the old town hall and let myself be enchanted by the medieval atmosphere of the town.
In the afternoon, we continue by cogwheel railway to the car-free mountain village of Zermatt. The journey there is an experience in itself – the steep slopes and breathtaking landscape make the trip a true highlight. In the evening, a "dine-around evening" is on the program. I have the difficult choice between various local restaurants and finally decide on a traditional fondue. With a steaming cheese fondue and a glass of wine, I enjoy the cozy atmosphere and let the day in Zermatt come to a fitting close before relaxing at my hotel, Resort Alex.
