Q: Do I still have to pay the special toll if I already have a vignette?

Yes, a special toll continues to apply at the Calafat-Vidin Danube Bridge in addition to the Rovinieta. At the Fetești-Cernavodă and Giurgeni-Vadu Oii Danube bridges, as well as at Giurgiu-Ruse in the direction of Bulgaria, no bridge toll has applied since October 1, 2026. You will still need the Rovinieta on all roads subject to the vignette requirement. In the direction of Romania, the Bulgarian toll still applies at the Ruse-Giurgiu Friendship Bridge.

The special toll refers to special toll routes. These are individual routes such as tunnels, passes, or bridges for which an additional fee applies alongside the vignette. In Romania, there is neither a tunnel toll nor a pass toll. The Romanian bridge toll at the Danube bridges Fetești-Cernavodă, Giurgeni-Vadu Oii, and Giurgiu-Ruse (direction Bulgaria) will be abolished as of October 1, 2026. A special toll will continue to apply at the Calafat-Vidin Danube bridge.

Who has to pay the special toll?

As of October 1, 2026, you will no longer pay a bridge toll at the Danube bridges Fetești-Cernavodă and Giurgeni-Vadu Oii, nor at Giurgiu-Ruse in the direction of Bulgaria. A special toll will continue to apply at the Calafat-Vidin Danube bridge, in addition to the Rovinieta. To use vignette-required roads, you will also still need a valid Rovinieta (e-vignette).

Which routes does the special toll apply to?

Until the end of September 2026, a bridge toll was charged at several Danube bridges. As of October 1, 2026, it will no longer apply on the Romanian side at the Danube bridges Fetești-Cernavodă (A2) and Giurgeni-Vadu Oii. At the Friendship Bridge Giurgiu-Ruse between Romania and Bulgaria, the Romanian toll will be abolished in the direction of Bulgaria. In the opposite direction, i.e. from Ruse to Giurgiu, the Bulgarian toll remains in place. The Danube bridge Calafat-Vidin also remains subject to a toll. Anyone crossing the Danube by ferry pays the usual ferry fare. This is not a toll.
