Last updated: 27.05.2026 Reading time: 8 Minute(s)

Would you like to explore the nature of Slovenia? In addition to the impressive Triglav National Park and the Soča Valley you should also put the spectacular Logarska Valley on your list. It is one of the most beautiful glacial valleys in Europe and is located in northern Slovenia, more precisely in the Solčava area.

Flora and Fauna

The Logarska Valley is known for its pristine, green natural landscape and impresses with largely untouched areas. Particularly recommended is the natural history and ethnographic trail, which leads visitors to the most beautiful sections of the valley. There you can discover rare and protected plant species that delight with their diversity of colours. Above all, the species-rich alpine flowers and mountain meadows are considered especially worth seeing.

In addition to the plant life, the wildlife of the Logarska Valley is equally impressive. With a pair of binoculars, you can observe golden eagles and peregrine falcons in the sky. You may also encounter skilled climbers such as ibex and chamois. A special feature is the native Bovec sheep, which are typical of this region.

Okrešelj Cirque

Nature enthusiasts should visit the Okrešelj cirque, a true botanical oasis with a wide variety of extraordinary plant species. Among others, rare lady's slipper orchids, Carniolan lilies, and Kamnik orchids grow here.

Okrešelj lies beneath the rock faces of the peaks Mrzla Gora, Turska Gora, Rinke and Križ. The valley blends harmoniously into the imposing mountain scenery and is reminiscent of a natural amphitheatre. The impressive Rinka waterfall is also located here.

Breathtaking Waterfalls

Among the best-known natural attractions of the Logarska Valley is the approximately 90-metre-high Rinka waterfall, surrounded by an impressive mountain landscape with peaks exceeding 2,000 metres in height. It is one of the most visited waterfalls in Slovenia and represents a truly special natural experience.

The waterfall is easily accessible on foot. Via hiking trails from Solčava, you can reach it in approximately 15 to 20 minutes. If travelling by vehicle, an entrance fee for the landscape park is charged during the spring and summer months.

Another natural monument is the Palenk waterfall, located above the eastern side of the valley. The water cascades over several rock ledges, dropping a total of 78 metres. Above the main fall, further smaller waterfalls can be discovered.

On the left slope there are also the Brloznica waterfalls with the nearby Brloznica Cave. The stream emerges from the cave at approximately 1,222 metres above sea level and falls a total of 125 metres, splitting into four individual waterfalls. Nearby there is also a natural rock window beneath which a hiking trail passes.

Activities in Nature

In Summer

The Logarska Valley offers numerous opportunities for an active holiday. Explore the surrounding mountains via well-marked hiking trails, discover the landscape by bicycle, or go on a climbing tour. The impressive natural scenery also provides excellent photographic subjects.

The valley is also perfectly suited for families. The enchanting forests spark children's imagination and offer a variety of nature experiences.

In Winter

The Logarska Valley is not only attractive in summer. During the cold season, various sporting activities are also available, including cross-country skiing, sledging, alpine skiing and downhill skiing. A particular highlight is ice climbing on frozen waterfalls, especially at the Palenk waterfall.

Wooden Granaries

Those who wish to discover traditional Slovenia should visit the characteristic wooden granaries. These, also known as kašče or "Lesene kašče", were formerly used as storage places for grain and food. Some are still in use today.

Chapel of Christ the King

The chapel was originally planned at the request of the residents of the Logarska Valley based on a design by Jože Plečnik, but was not fully realised according to his vision. The current design is based on the plans of architect Martin Goloba. It is located at the entrance to the Logarska Valley near the road to Pavličevo sedlo and offers, alongside cultural insight, a wonderful view of the valley.

A Break Along the Way

During your exploration tour, for example by bicycle, a culinary break is a great idea. Slovenian cuisine impresses with regional specialities. Further information on traditional dishes can be found in our guide.
