Czech Republic: D5 near Nýřany narrowed to one lane towards Pilsen until end of November 2026
On the D5 between Pilsen and the German border, the most important motorway connection between the Czech Republic and Germany, a bottleneck has been in place near Nýřany (kilometre 88 to 94) since 14 September 2026, lasting until the end of November at the latest. In the direction of Pilsen, only one lane is available, while two lanes remain in the direction of Rozvadov.
The reason is the general refurbishment of one of the country's oldest and busiest motorway sections. The concrete carriageway is being completely renewed over a stretch of around 6 kilometres, along with new crash barriers, bridge repairs and drainage work.
What happens after winter?
According to the road and motorway directorate ŘSD, the current stage will end in late November. Work will then pause over the winter, with repairs to the second half of the carriageway due to follow in spring 2027. Travellers should therefore expect restrictions on this section next year as well.
Further construction site near Heřmanova Huť and Ostrov
Work is also underway further towards the border: between kilometre 100.5 and 110.6 (in the area of the Heřmanova Huť and Ostrov junctions), work will continue until the end of October 2026 — more on this in our article on the D5 near Rozvadov. Anyone travelling from Germany via Waidhaus to Pilsen and Prague should therefore expect several bottlenecks in succession. On top of that, there are the extended German border controls at the border.
Plan for extra time on this route, especially in the direction of Pilsen and on weekends with heavy travel traffic. The D5 is part of the motorway network subject to the vignette requirement, and the construction work does not change that.
Czechia toll at a glance
For cars and motorhomes up to 3.5 t gross weight, the digital vignette requirement applies on motorways (D-roads). It is a flat fee for a fixed period. Motorcycles and trikes are exempt from the vignette requirement.
For trucks, buses and motorhomes over 3.5 t gross vehicle weight, the distance-based toll applies instead, charged via the electronic, satellite-based toll system MYTO CZ with an on-board unit (OBU); the rates are based on distance, vehicle category, number of axles, and EURO and CO₂ class. Not relevant for most car travelers. There is no separate special toll in the Czech Republic.
