Czech Republic: Ramp from the D2 to the D1 near Brno closed until 28 November 2026
At the Czech Republic's busiest motorway interchange, a key connection is being cut off: at the Brno-jih motorway interchange, the ramp from the D2 coming from Bratislava onto the D1 towards Ostrava is closed from 3 October 2026 until 28 November 2026. This was reported by the trade portal Zdopravy.cz on 2 October 2026. One of the most heavily used connections between Vienna, Bratislava and Ostrava is affected.
At the same time, on 3 October a new ramp was opened in the opposite direction, namely from the D1 coming from Prague onto the D2 towards Bratislava. The interchange has been undergoing extensive reconstruction since October 2025, with work expected to continue until November 2027. The project costs around 3.2 billion crowns; it will transform the cloverleaf into a two-leaf shape and will feature noise barriers up to six metres high. Around 80,000 vehicles pass through there every day.
Diversion for cars and trucks
Cars leave the D2 at Modřice and take Vídeňská street back to the D1 at the Brno-centrum junction (kilometre 194). Alternatively, the route runs via the streets Hněvkovského, Černovická and Ostravská to the Brno-východ junction (kilometre 203). Trucks are already diverted off the D2 at Břeclav and travel via road I/55 through Veselí nad Moravou onto the D55 towards Ostrava.
Expect waiting times on Brno's city streets, especially during rush hour. Before the switch to the new traffic layout, the D1 also had temporary single-lane traffic at night. Anyone who would rather change their route in advance can find tips on alternatives in our article on toll roads in the Czech Republic and possible bypasses.
Vignette remains mandatory
The D1 and D2 are among the Czech Republic's vignette-obligatory motorways. Anyone who briefly leaves the motorway because of the diversion does not need a vignette on the city streets, but does need one for all motorway sections of the journey. Our overview of the traffic rules in the Czech Republic summarises what other road traffic rules apply.
Other important routes are already restricted as well: on the Prague Ring Road (D0), traffic between the D1 and Jesenice will continue to be routed in two-way operation until 24 October 2026, and on the D5 towards Pilsen there is a lane narrowing near Nýřany.
Czechia toll at a glance
For cars and motorhomes up to 3.5 t gross weight, the digital vignette requirement applies on motorways (D-roads). It is a flat fee for a fixed period. Motorcycles and trikes are exempt from the vignette requirement.
For trucks, buses and motorhomes over 3.5 t gross vehicle weight, the distance-based toll applies instead, charged via the electronic, satellite-based toll system MYTO CZ with an on-board unit (OBU); the rates are based on distance, vehicle category, number of axles, and EURO and CO₂ class. Not relevant for most car travelers. There is no separate special toll in the Czech Republic.
