Day 11: An unforgettable ride on the Glacier Express

The Glacier Express on a viaduct in the Swiss Alps

The eleventh day brings one of the absolute highlights of my trip: a ride on the legendary Glacier Express. Already as I board, I can feel the anticipation of one of the most spectacular railway lines in the world. The panoramic windows offer an incomparable view of the majestic Alps, and I lean back to fully enjoy this unique experience. The train crosses the impressive Landwasser Viaduct, which looks like a work of engineering art, and takes us through the Oberalp Valley. The dramatic scenery with steep gorges and towering mountains completely captivates me.

In Andermatt, my train journey ends, and I briefly wonder how things will continue. But no worries – while I was enjoying the breathtaking train ride, my car was brought here by a service, so I can seamlessly continue the round trip. This small but important logistical step ensures everything runs smoothly.

The journey continues through the dramatic Schöllenen Gorge, past the famous Devil's Bridge. The drive through the Grindelwald Valley once again offers spectacular views of the Wetterhorn peaks. Finally, I reach Lauterbrunnen, where the impressive Staubbach Falls plunge 300 meters into the depths – a truly magical place to end the day. My cozy hotel, the Romantik Schweizerhof in Grindelwald, is already awaiting me.

Day 12: A free day in picturesque Grindelwald

The twelfth day of my trip begins leisurely, and I'm looking forward to a whole day in Grindelwald, one of the most charming villages in the Bernese Alps. The fresh mountain air and the breathtaking landscape invite me to enjoy the day at a relaxed pace and explore the surroundings. One of the main attractions here is the cogwheel train ride up to the Jungfrau – an absolute must for anyone who loves alpine views. I briefly consider whether to take the trip to the Jungfraujoch, the "Top of Europe," where a breathtaking panorama awaits me. Once at the top, there are not only snow-covered peaks to admire, but also the famous Ice Palace and the Sphinx observation deck. The view up here is truly spectacular, and it's hard to put the vastness and beauty of the Alps into words.

Alternatively, the many hiking trails winding through the green valleys and up into the mountains beckon. Nature lovers will find plenty here, as the flora and fauna are incredibly diverse. Those who prefer to take it easy can stroll through the village, visit the picturesque shops, or simply sit in a café and take in the breathtaking scenery.

Grindelwald offers a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation – the ideal place to unwind and fully enjoy the final days of the trip. In the evening, I return to the Romantik Schweizerhof and let the day wind down peacefully.
