Traffic Predictions in Germany and Austria

End of the Carnival Holidays will cause Traffic Jams

With the end of the Carnival holidays in Bavaria and parts of Baden-Württemberg this weekend, the return journey of holidaymakers from Austria to Germany will also take place. In particular, delays are expected in the state of Salzburg. The most affected areas include the Tauernautobahn (A10) in the construction zone between Werfen and Golling, the B 159 (Salzachtal Straße) between Bischofshofen and Kuchl, and the B 311 (Pinzgauer Straße) between Lend and St. Johann im Pongau. In addition to the Tauernautobahn, the Inntal and Brennerautobahns, the Fernpass Route, and the Tirol and Vorarlberg federal roads are also at risk of traffic jams in Austria.

In addition to these routes, the following motorways in Germany are most likely to be affected:

Additionally, you should expect delays and traffic jams at construction sites.

Traffic Predictions for Vienna: Fair, Concert and Demonstrations

From this Thursday (06.03.2025) to Sunday (09.03.2025), the largest educational fair "BeSt Wien" will take place in Vienna again. Heavy traffic is expected as the fair has welcomed between 75,000 and 80,000 visitors in recent years. Delays are expected when traveling to the exhibition halls in Vienna-Leopoldstadt, particularly on the Südosttangente (A23), around the Prater junction and Handelskai, the Ausstellungsstraße, and Praterstern.

Additionally, several demonstrations will take place this weekend in downtown Vienna. Both Friday and Saturday will be affected. Due to the demonstrations, there may be road closures. On Friday, the "March of Science" is planned, and on Saturday, two demonstrations will take place on the topic of "Feminist Fighting Day." The use of public transportation and avoiding the city center are recommended.

However, it’s not only the fair and the demonstrations that will cause delays! Lenny Kravitz’s concert will also attract his fans to the Austrian capital this coming Sunday. The Hütteldorfer Straße and the streets in the Nibelungenviertel are considered prone to traffic jams. It is emphasized that travelers by car must not use residents’ parking spaces under any circumstances. Public transportation (U6 and tram lines 6, 9, 18, 49, as well as bus line 48A) is recommended instead.
