Vignette required roads

In Slovakia there are a large number of toll-vignette-required routes. To be allowed to use them, you must therefore purchase a vignette in advance. If you use vignette-required roads without a vignette, fines may be imposed. Therefore, avoid this risk and pay attention to the vignette-required roads.

Digital vignette

A vignette requirement applies to almost all motorway and expressway sections in Slovakia. Sections without fees are marked with signs displaying ›BEZ UHRADY‹. The digital vignette (also called e-vignette) for Slovak motorways and expressways replaced the original sticker vignette and has existed since 2020.

Not every vehicle falls under the vignette requirement. Alongside the vignette requirement, there is also the distance-based toll in Slovenia. You can find further information on the various vehicle classes and when your vehicle is subject to a vignette requirement or the distance-based toll in our article on vehicle classes and on tolls in Slovakia.

Which routes are subject to a vignette requirement?

On our homepage, you can use a map to get an overview of the vignette-required roads. There, roads that are subject to a vignette requirement are marked in yellow. To help you better understand the specific vignette-required route sections, you can use the following list as a guide:

In conclusion, it can be said that you should definitely pay attention to the vignette-required roads during your trip. We recommend that you purchase a digital vignette in advance so that you can enjoy your trip worry-free. It is possible to avoid the vignette requirement, but the map and our route overview make it clear that there is a significant restriction (especially with regard to motorways and expressways). Avoiding the vignette-required route sections is practically hardly possible, especially if you want to travel further into the interior of the country. To avoid the risk of fines, you should therefore travel prepared with a digital vignette.
