Full Closure of the Brenner Motorway

Demonstration Brings Brenner Motorway to a Standstill for Hours

Travellers must prepare for significant disruptions at the Brenner at the end of May, as on 30 May the Brenner Motorway will be completely closed due to a demonstration. The important transit route between Germany, Austria and Italy, which sees high traffic volumes every day, will be impassable on that day for several hours. The full closure will massively impact traffic along the Brenner corridor.

Closures Along the Entire Brenner Corridor

Not only the motorway itself is affected by the demonstration, but also through traffic on the parallel federal and state roads. Travellers must therefore expect significant delays and traffic disruptions across large parts of Tyrol on the Saturday after Whitsun. The total closure of the Brenner Motorway is planned for the period from 11:00 to 19:00.

Background of the Demonstration at the Brenner

The demonstration was registered by the mayor of the municipality of Gries am Brenner and is directed against the heavy traffic load in the region. This is already the third attempt at such a protest action on the Brenner Motorway, which has now been approved. According to estimates, the closure will prevent more than 32,000 vehicles from crossing the Brenner on that day.
