Czech Republic: D5 towards Rozvadov narrowed to two lanes until the end of October 2026

On the most important motorway connection between the Czech Republic and Germany, the D5 between Pilsen and the border at Rozvadov, travelers still need to expect a noticeable lane narrowing until the end of October 2026. On the nearly ten-kilometer-long section between kilometer 100.5 and 110.6 (in the area of the Heřmanova Huť and Ostrov junctions, around 40 km before the border), the carriageway is narrowed to two lanes in the direction of Rozvadov. The reason is the complete renewal of the concrete carriageway in the opposite direction (towards Pilsen).

In the opposite direction, i.e. from the border back towards Pilsen and Prague, the situation is even tighter: on the parallel section between kilometer 110.5 and 100.5, traffic has already been diverted onto the opposite carriageway since July 11, 2026, on just one lane, also until the end of October 2026. The diversion at the construction site runs via the Ostrov junction (Exit 107).

Additional construction work at the Rozvadov rest area

In parallel, modernization work is also underway until October 31, 2026 at the Rozvadov rest area (kilometer 149.7 to 150.7 towards Prague), where traffic is likewise being managed in two-lane operation. Anyone using this route regularly should currently expect noticeably more travel time on the entire section between Pilsen and the German border, especially at weekends and on public holidays with increased cross-border traffic.

Toll in the Czech Republic

In the Czech Republic too, the vignette is only one of several forms of toll collection. For vehicles up to 3.5 t gross vehicle weight, i.e. cars and motorhomes, the vignette requirement applies on motorways such as the D5, while motorcycles remain toll-free. For vehicles over 3.5 t gross vehicle weight, i.e. trucks and buses, the distance-based toll applies instead: the electronic, satellite-based toll system MYTO CZ with an on-board unit (OBU), whose rates depend on the distance, vehicle category, number of axles, as well as EURO and CO₂ class.
