Austria: Truck dispatch control (Blockabfertigung) on the A12 near Kufstein – the remaining metering days for 2026
On the A12 Inntal Autobahn near Kufstein-Nord, Tyrol is continuing the controversial truck block clearance throughout the rest of 2026. Travelers heading from Germany via the A93 towards Kufstein and onward towards Innsbruck or the Brenner should be aware of the remaining metering days, as on these days tailbacks on the German side can build up to as much as 80 kilometers.
How the block clearance works
At a checkpoint on the A12 shortly after the Kufstein-Nord junction, truck traffic heading towards Innsbruck is metered from the early morning hours: only a limited number of trucks per hour may pass, while the rest must wait on the A12. This affects trucks over 7.5 tonnes, which must remain on the motorway and continue via the A13. Since often only one lane is available for the remaining traffic during the checks, long tailbacks form – with no rest facilities or sanitary facilities for the waiting truck drivers.
The remaining metering days in 2026
Of the total of 30 metering days scheduled for 2026, the following dates remain after September 28:
October 5, October 27, November 4, November 11, November 18, November 25, and December 9, 2026.
Anyone traveling southbound on one of these days should allow generous buffer time or – if possible – choose a different day of the week.
Austria toll at a glance
For cars, motorcycles and motorhomes up to 3.5 t GVW, the digital vignette requirement applies on motorways and expressways. It is a flat fee for a fixed period.
For trucks, buses and larger motorhomes over 3.5 t GVW, the distance-based toll applies instead, paid with the GO-Box. Its amount depends on factors such as the distance driven, number of axles and emission class. In addition, individual tunnels and mountain roads (e.g. Brenner, Tauern Tunnel, Karawanken Tunnel) charge a separate special toll, regardless of any other toll product.
