Slovenia: A1 towards Koper near Postojna restricted for months (until mid-November 2026)
On the Slovenian A1 motorway between Unec and Postojna, the most important link from Ljubljana to the Adriatic coast and onwards to Croatia, extensive renovation works have been underway since spring 2026. The on-ramp at the Postojna interchange towards Koper is expected to be completely closed until the second half of November 2026, and traffic in the construction area is additionally reduced to a single lane in each direction with significantly narrowed lanes.
The section between the Ravbarkomanda viaduct and the Razdrto junction is affected. Anyone travelling towards Koper, Portorož, or onwards to Croatia in autumn 2026 should expect noticeable delays on this stretch, especially on travel weekends.
Which section is affected?
The reason for the works is a comprehensive renewal of the route section, including the demolition and reconstruction of a bridge over the Pivka river. The lanes have been narrowed to 3.0 metres (right) and just 2.3 metres (left), which can be particularly tight for wider vehicles and motorhomes.
How long will the restrictions last?
Construction work has already been underway since the beginning of March 2026. While the direction towards Ljubljana was reopened as early as July 2026, the on-ramp towards Koper at the Postojna interchange currently remains closed until the second half of November 2026.
Toll in Slovenia
In Slovenia, cars, motorcycles, and motorhomes up to 3.5 t GVW are subject to the vignette requirement. For vehicles over 3.5 t GVW, the distance-based toll via the DarsGo system with an on-board unit applies instead. As a special toll, Slovenia also charges a fee for the Karawanken Tunnel at the border with Austria.
Anyone travelling through several countries on their trip often gets a better deal with the Europamaut flat rate: for 12.80 euros a month, vignettes for all supported countries are included, with no minimum term and cancellable at any time.
The Europamaut team wishes you a pleasant journey!
