Romania: A3 between Nușfalău and Suplacu de Barcău closed from September 17
On the Transilvania Motorway (A3) in Transylvania, a complete closure will come into effect from Thursday, 17 September 2026,. Between the Nușfalău and Suplacu de Barcău junctions in Sălaj County, the motorway will be impassable in both directions over a length of around 13 kilometres (kilometre 66+500 to 79+854).
The Romanian road authority CNAIR justifies the closure with connection works for the new section between Suplacu de Barcău and Chiribiș. This is intended to link the A3 directly to the largely completed connection towards Nădășelu and Cluj-Napoca in the future. CNAIR has not yet communicated a specific end date, but local media reports assume that the works could last until the end of September 2026.
Diversion via the DN 19B
Anyone needing to bypass the closed section will be diverted via the DN 19B main road. The signposted route runs via Marghita, Satu Barbă, Suplacu de Barcău and Ip back to the Nușfalău junction. Travellers should allow for additional travel time, as the DN 19B itself is also narrowed to just one lane per direction between kilometre 42+250 and 42+750.
Significance for the route towards Hungary
The affected section forms part of the further expansion of the Transilvania Motorway towards the Hungarian border at Borș/Oradea. Travellers heading to the Romania-Hungary border crossing should take the closure into account when planning their route.
