Hungary: M0 Deák-Ferenc Bridge near Budapest partially closed until 20 October 2026
Since Tuesday, 13 October 2026, the two outer lanes on the Deák Ferenc Bridge of the Budapest ring motorway M0 have been closed in the direction of the M1. According to Hungarian media reports, the restriction is expected to last until 20 October 2026.
The closure affects the southern Danube bridge of the M0 between junctions 17 (Szigethalom-Tököl) and 14 (Érd-Budafok). The reason is a partial renovation of the northern half of the bridge, which opened in 1990. Only the two inner lanes remain open. Already on the first day, a tailback of more than 15 kilometres formed. The M0 is part of the toll-vignette network, so anyone driving here needs the vignette for Hungary (e-matrica).
What does this mean for travellers?
The bridge is an important link in the ring road between the M5 and the M1. Anyone travelling from the direction of Szeged and the Serbian border via Budapest towards Győr and the Austrian border could get caught in the traffic jam here. According to reports, the tailback reached as far as the Gyál-Pestszentimre junction, and increased traffic is also to be expected at times on the surrounding roads.
Allow significantly more time for journeys via the M0, especially during rush hour. Those who are flexible should travel outside peak times. For current updates, check the Hungarian road information service Útinform or a navigation app with live traffic data.
How long will the closure last?
Work began on Tuesday morning at 7 a.m. If the weather permits, normal traffic should resume on 20 October 2026. No official statement from the road authority Magyar Közút was available at the time of research; the information is based on Hungarian media reports and Útinform. Dates may change in the event of bad weather.

Hungary toll at a glance
For cars, motorcycles and motorhomes up to 3.5 t GVW, the digital vignette requirement (e-Matrica) applies on motorways and expressways. It is a flat fee for a fixed period. Unlike in many other countries, motorcycles in Hungary are not exempt from the vignette requirement.
For trucks and buses over 3.5 t GVW, the distance-based toll of the HU-GO system applies instead. Its amount depends on factors such as road category, distance driven, vehicle class and emission class. Motorhomes remain subject to the e-Matrica vignette requirement (category D2) even above 3.5 t GVW and do not switch to HU-GO. Hungary has no separate special toll.
