Hungary: Motorway vignette to become more expensive in 2027 (new prices already known)
Anyone travelling through Hungary by car in 2027 will need to dig deeper into their pocket for the motorway vignette (e-matrica): the Hungarian authorities have already published the new prices in September 2026. From 1 January 2027, the national annual vignette for cars (category D1) will rise from 61,760 to 62,560 forints (equivalent to around 154 euros, depending on the exchange rate) – an increase of 800 forints, or 1.3 percent.
The reason for the increase is the automatic price adjustment to the Hungarian consumer price index (KSH) for August, which the trade portal autopalyamatrica.hu cites as the basis for the rates set by ministerial decree. This affects not only the annual vignettes, but all validity periods as well as the late payment fees for a missing vignette.
These prices apply from 2027
In addition to the national annual vignette for cars, the other validity periods in category D1 are also increasing: the county annual vignette (valid for only a single Hungarian administrative region) will cost 7,280 forints from 2027 instead of 7,190 forints, while the daily vignette will cost 5,630 forints. For motorhomes and other category D2 vehicles, the national annual vignette will rise to 88,790 forints (around 219 euros) in 2027. In Hungary, this category also applies to motorhomes over 3.5 t gross vehicle weight – they remain subject to the vignette requirement and, unlike trucks, do not switch to distance-based tolling.
The late payment fee is also rising
Anyone caught without a valid vignette on a toll-liable Hungarian motorway will also pay more from 2027: the basic fee for a late payment within the first 75 days will rise from 27,790 to 28,150 forints, and after that from 95,730 to 96,970 forints. Maut in Ungarn auf einen Blick
Für Pkw, Motorräder und Wohnmobile bis 3,5 t zGG gilt auf Autobahnen und Schnellstraßen die digitale Vignettenpflicht (e-Matrica) – ein Pauschalbetrag für einen festen Zeitraum. Anders als in vielen anderen Ländern sind Motorräder in Ungarn nicht von der Vignettenpflicht befreit.
Für Lkw und Busse über 3,5 t zGG gilt stattdessen die streckenbezogene Maut des Systems HU-GO, deren Höhe unter anderem von Straßenkategorie, Streckenlänge, Fahrzeugklasse und Emissionsklasse abhängt. Wohnmobile bleiben auch über 3,5 t zGG in der e-Matrica-Vignettenpflicht (Kategorie D2) und wechseln nicht zu HU-GO. Eine gesonderte Sondermaut existiert in Ungarn nicht.
