Hungary: M1, M7 and M0 near Budapest with lane closures from 26 October 2026 until the third week of November
On the motorways southwest of Budapest, travellers must expect several lane closures from Monday, 26 October 2026, until probably the third week of November. The Hungarian road authority Magyar Közút is resurfacing the carriageway in several stages over a total length of around 9 kilometres on the shared section of the M1 and M7, on the M7 and on the M0, mainly in the area of Budaörs, Törökbálint and Diósd. The 17th of October had initially been announced as the start date, but according to a statement from Magyar Közút dated 16 October 2026, work will not begin until 26 October.
The M1 runs from Budapest to the Austrian border at Hegyeshalom, the M7 to Lake Balaton and onwards towards Croatia. Both routes, like the M0, require a vignette; anyone driving here needs the vignette for Hungary (e-matrica).
Overview of the first stages
26 to 27 October: At the point where the M1 and M7 diverge near Budaörs, the middle lane will be closed. Traffic towards the M7 will use the inner lane, traffic towards the M1 the outer lane. On the M7 towards Lake Balaton, the exit to the M0 and to road 8103 will be closed, with the diversion routed via the Érd junction.
27 to 28 October: On the M7 towards Budapest, the outer of two deceleration lanes at the Budaörs junction (Sport utca) will be closed, while the exit itself remains open.
28 to 29 October: On the M7 towards Budapest, the outer lane will be closed for around 500 metres in the area of the M0 junction, with traffic running on the inner lane. In addition, at the Budaörs junction towards Budapest, the outer part of the acceleration lane will be closed, while the inner part remains open for merging.
In November, work will continue at further locations on the M7 and the M0; Magyar Közút will announce the dates later. In total, around 8,400 tonnes of asphalt will be laid. The schedule may change depending on the weather.
Deák Ferenc Bridge on the M0
The partial closure of the Deák Ferenc Bridge on the M0 had been announced until 20 October 2026. Anyone travelling around Budapest or from the direction of Lake Balaton should still allow extra time and avoid peak hours because of the works near Budaörs.

Hungary toll at a glance
For cars, motorcycles and motorhomes up to 3.5 t GVW, the digital vignette requirement (e-Matrica) applies on motorways and expressways. It is a flat fee for a fixed period. Unlike in many other countries, motorcycles in Hungary are not exempt from the vignette requirement.
For trucks and buses over 3.5 t GVW, the distance-based toll of the HU-GO system applies instead. Its amount depends on factors such as road category, distance driven, vehicle class and emission class. Motorhomes remain subject to the e-Matrica vignette requirement (category D2) even above 3.5 t GVW and do not switch to HU-GO. Hungary has no separate special toll.
