Austria: Reschen Pass (B180) intermittently fully closed on weekdays until end of November
On the Reschen Pass road (B180) between Pfunds and the border at Nauders/Reschen, travelers should still expect complete closures on weekdays until 27 November 2026. The reason is rock clearance work and the construction of a roughly 400-metre-long rockfall gallery.
The road will be closed Mondays to Thursdays from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm as well as Fridays from 7:30 am to 2:00 pm; on weekends the route remains open to traffic.
Diversion via Switzerland
Anyone travelling during the closure periods will be diverted via the Swiss federal roads B184 and B185 – adding roughly 15 to 20 minutes to the journey time. The Reschen Pass route via the Austria–Italy border crossing at Reschen/Resia is one of the best-known alternatives to the Brenner motorway between Tyrol and South Tyrol.
Additional diversion pressure due to the Landeck Tunnel
The closure periods overlap with the upcoming, roughly eight-week-long full closure of the Landeck Tunnel on the A12 starting mid-October 2026. Anyone with both construction sites on their route should allow generously extra time for the journey through Tyrol.
Tolls in Austria
For cars, motorcycles, and motorhomes up to 3.5 t gross vehicle weight, the vignette requirement applies in Austria on motorways and expressways – a flat fee for a fixed validity period, regardless of the distance driven.
For trucks, buses, and heavier motorhomes over 3.5 t gross vehicle weight, the distance-based toll applies instead via the so-called GO-Box, the amount of which depends on the kilometres driven, the number of axles, and the emissions class.
In addition, an extra fee applies on certain special toll routes – for example on the Brenner, Tauern, Felbertauern, and Katschberg tunnels, as well as on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road and the Nockalm Road. The Reschen Pass itself is not among these special toll routes.
