Travel report Hungary: Day 3

Last updated: 14.09.2026

On the third day of our journey through Hungary, we dedicate ourselves to exploring the breathtaking natural beauty of the country and let ourselves be tempted by the culinary delights of Hungarian cuisine. Our day promises an unforgettable adventure full of discoveries and gastronomic pleasures.

We begin our day with a trip to Lake Balaton, the largest inland lake in Central Europe, also known as the "Hungarian Sea." Lake Balaton entices with its picturesque shores, gentle hills, and idyllic vineyards, which provide a unique backdrop for relaxed walks and boat trips. We explore picturesque towns along the lake such as Tihany, known for its monastery and stunning views, as well as Badacsony, famous for its wines and vineyards.

After our exploration tour at Lake Balaton, we set off for the Hungarian Puszta, a vast region in the east of the country known for its endless plains, traditional horse shows, and warm hospitality. We visit a traditional Csárda, a Hungarian inn, where we have the opportunity to try local specialties such as goulash soup, Pörkölt, and Lángos. We let ourselves be swept away by the lively sounds of gypsy music and experience the traditional Hungarian way of life up close.

After a hearty lunch, we set off on a horse-drawn carriage ride through the endless expanses of the Puszta. We enjoy the gentle ride through the landscape and let ourselves be enchanted by the beauty and tranquility of nature. Along the way, we make a stop to see the famous Hungarian Puszta horses in action and learn more about their breeding and history.

In the evening, we return to Budapest, where we conclude the day with another culinary highlight. We visit a traditional Hungarian restaurant and treat ourselves to the delicious specialties of Hungarian cuisine. We sample traditional dishes such as Töltött káposzta (stuffed cabbage), Paprikahendl (paprika chicken), and Dobos cake, while enjoying the warm atmosphere and hospitality of the locals.

The third day of our journey through Hungary has deeply impressed us with its fascinating nature and culinary diversity. We are grateful for the unforgettable experiences and culinary discoveries we have made, and we look forward to more adventures in the coming days.
