Traffic jam forecasts in Austria for the semester holidays
Due to the start of the semester break in Vienna, Lower Austria and parts of Germany, increased traffic volume towards the ski resorts is expected. This affects mainly the A9 (Pyhrn Autobahn), the A10 (Tauern Autobahn), the A13 (Brenner Autobahn), as well as the S6 Semmering and the S16 Arlberg expressway.
On a positive note, however, the A13 (Brenner Autobahn) will introduce two-lane traffic instead of the previous single-lane restriction due to the construction site at the Luegbrücke this coming Saturday (01.02.2025). This is an attempt to counteract the expected increase in traffic and the associated traffic jam forecasts. The two-lane traffic is set to take effect from 8 a.m.
It is also worth mentioning that the Alpine Ski World Championships begin on 4 February in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, meaning that eager fans will also contribute to the increased traffic volume and the development of traffic jams (particularly on the A10 Tauern Autobahn between Salzburg and Flachau as well as at the tunnel construction site between Golling and Werfen).
