Romania: A7 Bacău Bypass Completely Closed Until End of August 2026
The A7 bypass road at Bacău remains completely closed along its entire length, expected until the end of August 2026. This affects a central north-south connection of the Autostrada Moldovei through Romania's Moldova region. During the closure, traffic is being completely diverted via the DN2 through the city of Bacău.
Anyone planning to use the A7 heading north or south on the way to or through Romania should currently expect detours through the city of Bacău and keep an eye on the reopening date.
Which section is closed and why?
The entire Bacău bypass (Varianta Ocolitoare Bacău) is closed between kilometre 279+650 in the south and kilometre 296+400 in the north, since 7:00 a.m. on 17 August 2026. The reason is connection works linking the bypass to the newly completed A7 sections Adjud–Răcăciuni and Răcăciuni–Bacău of the Autostrada Moldovei.
According to the road authority CNAIR, the route is expected to reopen on 31 August or 1 September 2026, though a final date has not yet been fixed and depends on the progress of the last construction works and technical inspections.
Tolls in Romania
In Romania, the Rovinieta vignette requirement applies to almost all vehicles up to 3.5 t GVW, except motorcycles. There is no kilometre-based, distance-related toll for cars in Romania. For trucks over 3.5 t GVW, the new TollRo system is gradually replacing the previous time-based heavy-goods Rovinieta. In addition, there is a separate special toll, for example on the Danube bridge between Fetești and Cernavodă, which applies independently of the vignette.
