Travelers must brace for significant restrictions at the Brenner Pass at the end of May, as the Brenner motorway will be completely closed on May 30 due to a demonstration. The important transit route between Germany, Austria and Italy, which is characterized by a high volume of traffic every day, will be impassable for several hours on this day. The full closure will massively affect traffic along the Brenner corridor.
Closures along the entire Brenner corridor
The demonstration affects not only the motorway itself, but also through traffic on the parallel federal and state roads. Travelers should therefore expect significant delays and traffic disruptions in large parts of Tyrol on the Saturday after Whitsun. The total closure of the Brenner motorway is planned for the period from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Background of the demonstration at the Brenner Pass
The demonstration was registered by the mayor of the municipality of Gries am Brenner and is directed against the high traffic burden in the region. This is already the third attempt at such a protest action on the Brenner motorway, which has now been approved. According to estimates, more than 32,000 vehicles will be unable to pass through the Brenner Pass on this day due to the closure.
