Renovation Works in the Pfänder Tunnel and A14
From 2 March, work will begin between Bregenz and Wolfurt-Lauterach (A14 Rheintal/Walgau Motorway) alongside the second phase of renovations in the Pfänder Tunnel. The renovations are intended to increase safety on Vorarlberg's motorways.
Renovations in the Pfänder Tunnel
In the Pfänder Tunnel, the operational and safety technology in the eastern tube will be renewed. These renovation works will take place mostly at night, so that traffic will only be restricted in the eastern tube at night (8 pm to 5 am). However, to ensure that travelling through the Pfänder Tunnel remains possible, a contraflow section will be set up in the western tube. The maximum speed will be reduced to 60 km/h. The renovation works are expected to be completed by the end of October 2026.
Outside the night closures, both tunnel tubes can be used without construction site restrictions. In addition: the Pfänder Tunnel will be accessible without construction site restrictions on busy public holidays and at weekends.
Construction work on the A14
In addition to the Pfänder Tunnel, the second phase of work to renew the road surface and drainage in the three-lane section is also beginning. The works on the A14 (between Bregenz and Wolfurt-Lauterach) also start on the second of March. During the works, two lanes will remain open to traffic. The works are expected to be completed by mid-July 2026.
