Traffic jam forecast for semester holidays Austria

Due to the start of the semester break in Vienna, Lower Austria, and parts of Germany, increased traffic towards the ski resorts is expected. This particularly affects the A9 (Pyhrn Motorway), the A10 (Tauern Motorway), the A13 (Brenner Motorway), as well as the S6 Semmering and S16 Arlberg expressways.

On a positive note, the A13 (Brenner Motorway) will introduce two-lane traffic on the coming Saturday (01.02.2025) at the construction site on the Luegbrücke, replacing the previously single-lane operation. This is an attempt to counter the expected increased traffic volume and the associated traffic jam forecasts. The two-lane operation is set to come into effect from 8 o'clock in the morning.

It is also worth mentioning that the Alpine Ski World Championships begin on 4 February in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, meaning that eager fans will also contribute to the increased traffic volume and congestion build-up (particularly on the A10 Tauern Motorway between Salzburg and Flachau, as well as at the tunnel construction site between Golling and Werfen).
