Traffic Jam Forecasts in Austria for the Semester Holidays

Due to the start of the semester holidays in Vienna, Lower Austria, and parts of Germany, increased traffic is expected towards the ski resorts. This mainly affects the A9 (Pyhrn Autobahn), A10 (Tauern Autobahn), A13 (Brenner Autobahn), as well as the S6 Semmering and S16 Arlberg expressways.

However, there is a positive development: the A13 (Brenner Autobahn) will introduce a two-lane system for the upcoming Saturday (01.02.2025) instead of the previously existing single lane due to the construction site at Lueg Bridge. This is an attempt to counteract the expected increased traffic and the resulting congestion forecasts. The two-lane system is set to start at 8 AM.

It is worth noting that the Alpine Ski World Championships will begin in Saalbach-Hinterglemm on February 4, meaning that eager fans will also contribute to the increased traffic and congestion (especially on the A10 Tauern Autobahn between Salzburg and Flachau and at the tunnel construction site between Golling and Werfen).

We recommend familiarizing yourself with your travel route beforehand and, for example, using our Route Planner to search for possible alternative routes to avoid the expected traffic jams.

The DMC team wishes you a pleasant holiday and a safe journey!
