As in many other countries, Slovenia also has toll-required routes. What is less common, however: the vignette has been available only in digital form since 2022. The so-called E-Vinjeta makes things much easier for all drivers in Slovenia. With us, you can get the digital vignette – in just a few steps and available for immediate download.
You can get the E-Vinjeta directly from us. Our online shop will guide you step by step through the process. You will need to provide the following information in any case:
Your vehicle registration plate
The country of registration
The toll class of your vehicle
The validity period
Your current email address
Once the ordering process is complete, you will receive a confirmation from us. This will be sent to you by email. After you have received the vignette from us, it is valid immediately and you can use Slovenia's toll roads without any problems.
In Slovenia there are different vehicle classes. These are determined, among other things, by the size of the vehicles. The following classes are defined accordingly:
Class 1: This includes motorcycles and motor scooters. The decisive factor is whether they are single-track, meaning all their wheels are arranged one behind the other.
Class 2A: Covers all standard passenger cars. There are two requirements for this class: firstly, the permissible gross vehicle weight must not exceed 3.5 t GVW. Secondly, the height at the front axle must not exceed 1.3 m. Larger SUVs and minivans therefore also fall into this class if they meet both requirements.
Class 2B: Larger vehicles that do not meet the requirements of Class 2A but are not yet heavy vehicles are assigned Class 2B. These include, for example, vans and delivery vehicles.
Heavy vehicles: For everything that is too large and heavy even for Class 2B, the digital vignette is not sufficient. Instead, you must pay a distance-based toll and acquire an on-board unit (DarsGo transponder). The costs are then calculated based on kilometres travelled, the number of axles, and the Euro emission class.
One more tip: if you are unsure which class your vehicle falls into, it is worth checking the relevant list published by the Slovenian motorway company DARS. There you will find a (non-exhaustive) list of vehicles and their corresponding classes. You can also find more information in our articles on vehicle classes and tolls in Slovenia.
You can purchase the digital vignette both online in advance and at petrol stations near the border and DARS sales outlets. However, it is recommended to sort out the vignette before starting your journey. This saves you time and hassle on the road. So purchase your digital vignette from us now.
Anyone who does not comply with the vignette requirement for motorways and expressways must expect fines. These range from €300 up to €800. The amount depends on how long you have been travelling on a toll road without a vignette and what type of vehicle you are driving. Repeat offenders who have already been caught within the last 24 months are often charged even more.
Enforcement is carried out by vehicles as well as permanently installed cameras. You should not count on lax checks here. In Slovenia, the police strictly enforce such violations. Those who are unable or unwilling to pay must expect the confiscation of their driving licence until the fine is settled. Compared to these (quite hefty) penalties, the cost of the vignette is a small price to pay.
Good to know: The E-Vignette is only valid for a specific vehicle, as it is linked to the licence plate. Switching vehicles during your trip to Slovenia without purchasing an additional vignette is therefore not possible.
We advise against it. Not only are the alternatives often poorly signposted, it also simply takes much longer. In addition, many areas in the immediate vicinity of the motorways are also subject to tolls. This applies, for example, to roundabouts. Especially in these border areas, the police are particularly vigilant and can impose fines. It makes no difference whether you accidentally enter such an area – you will still have to pay.
