As in many other countries, Slovenia also has toll roads. What is less common: since 2022, the vignette has only been available in digital form. The so-called e-vinjeta makes things much easier for all drivers in Slovenia. With us, you can get the digital vignette in just a few steps and download it immediately.
You can get the e-vinjeta directly here from us. Our online shop guides you through the process step by step. In any case, you will need to provide the following information:
As soon as the order process is completed, you will receive a confirmation from us. This will be sent to you by email. Once you have received the vignette from us, it is valid immediately and you can use Slovenia’s toll roads without any issues.
In Slovenia, there are different toll classes. These are based on vehicle size. This results in the following classes:
One more tip: If you’re not sure which class your vehicle falls into, it’s worth taking a look at the relevant list from the Slovenian motorway operator DARS. There you’ll find a (non-exhaustive) list of vehicles and their corresponding classes.
You can purchase the digital vignette online in advance, or at fuel stations near the border and at DARS sales points. However, it’s recommended to take care of the vignette before you start your trip. That way you’ll save time and stress on the road.
In Slovenia, you can purchase the e-vignette for three different periods: 7 days, one month, or one year. There is a special rule for toll class 1: instead of a monthly vignette, a 6-month vignette applies.
You can pre-date the vignette by up to one month. This means you can plan well ahead of your trip. There is also an important change regarding the annual vignette: it is no longer tied to a calendar year. Instead, it is valid for 12 consecutive months.
But be careful: the vignette is valid starting on the first day. So if you plan a trip from Friday to the following Friday, that’s a total of 8 days.
Anyone who does not comply with the vignette requirement for highways and expressways must expect fines. These range from €300 up to €800. The amount depends on how long you have been driving on a toll road without a vignette and what kind of vehicle you are driving. Repeat offenders who have already been caught within the last 24 months are often charged even more.
Enforcement is carried out by patrol vehicles as well as permanently installed cameras. You should not expect lenient checks here. In Slovenia, the police strictly monitor such violations.
If you are unable or unwilling to pay, your driver’s license may be confiscated until the fine is paid. Compared to these—quite hefty—penalties, the cost of the vignette is negligible.
Good to know: the e-vignette is only valid for a specific vehicle, not for you personally. So switching cars during your trip to Slovenia without purchasing another vignette is not possible.
We advise against it. Not only are the alternatives often poorly signposted, it also simply takes much longer. In addition, many areas in the immediate vicinity of highways are also subject to tolls. This applies, for example, to roundabouts. Especially in these border areas, the police are particularly vigilant and may impose fines. It does not matter whether you enter such an area by accident—you still have to pay.
